Volunteer for Les Monts

As a charity caring for many hedgehogs at a time, we're always in need for more fabulous volunteers to complete a range of tasks - here's a brief breakdown of our different volunteering roles, along with some staff testimonials

There are various ways to volunteer depending on how much time you can give primarily. Also please note that all training is given & if wanting to help cleaning, feeding in the rescue the first time is usually spent shadowing me (Chris) to give you an idea of what is involved, and then you can decide if it what you would like to help with. No-one is ever pressured to do anything, especially if you are not keen. It is not for everyone, & many other jobs can be done that do not involve cleaning out rather smelly cages.

  1. A couple of hours a day (mornings) to assist with general cleaning of cages/hutches & preparing bowls of food as instructed. Each hedgehog has its own medical chart & all food eaten & given is recorded. I will always be at hand to check if/as & when changes are needed. The basic rules/guidance will be explained.
  2. Half an hour – three quarters (late afternoon/early evening) to top up feeding stations in the hedgehog garden (HHG), Kenny & Snowflakes run & generally in the main garden. Also a brief check & top up any bowls of food/water in the hospital as needed.
  3. One hour approximately (weekly) to check the hedgehog houses in the HHG to clean &/or top up with hay as necessary.
  4. One hour approximately (weekly) to check the hedgehog garden the water bowls in the HHG; Kenny’s run & main garden. Clean &/or top up with water as necessary.
  5. Topping up the newspapers in cupboards ensuring they are flat & putting away any donations (food usually) in cupboards.

Other ways of helping off site:

  • Collecting Newspapers, Crisp bags & delivering to Les Monts.
  • Collecting/saving old towels &/or tea-towels & delivering to Les Monts.
  • Collecting any of above from people who donate items.
  • Collecting & delivering to Les Monts Hedgehogs found that people cannot bring in. (All training is given.)
  • Taking hedgehogs to &/or from the vets to Les Monts (while Chris is struggling to drive &/or is extremely busy in the rescue). Vets are based in Solihull.
  • Shopping for supplies – occasionally. Money is given for shopping.
  • Collecting & possibly storing items donated for the Tombola stall &/or crafts.

Finally on occasions when we hold Coffee Mornings, Fundraisers etc. much help is needed to man stalls, make refreshments, a BBQ (Open Day) & lots of preparation. Even prepare the Tombola items etc.

If any of the above are of interest to you please phone or text Chris on <temporarily_omitted>.
